Page 1 of 3 Escape Fire Plan

Escape Plan

An escape plan should be established to get out of each room of the house.  The plan should include two exits from each room.  This is so that if the first way is blocked by smoke or fire, the second route can be used.  Be sure to know how to open windows and have a chain ladder for second floor escapes.

The escape plan should be practiced often and if small children are around, every month.  Be sure that windows are not stuck and that screens can be removed quickly if needed as a window makes for a perfect second route out. When you practice your plan make sure you do it in the light as well in the dark.

Also remember, when leaving do not open doors if they are hot and crawl on the floor.
