If a fire does occur, leave the house immediately and go to your designated meeting place. Do not waste time trying to save possessions. Try to take the safest route out of the house. If you find that the only way out is to go through smoke, be sure to remain as far under the smoke as possible. Smoke contains toxins that can harm you and make you disoriented, or worse, prevent you from getting out.
