Introduction

Personal computers first started to become popular in the late 1970s. The first most popular computer was the Apple II by Apple Computer. Competition picked up for Apple Computers at the same time and into the early 1980s. The IBM PC, which became the personal computer of choice, debuted in 1981. That was just the beginning; since then computers have become a part of people’s daily routine.

Personal computers are typically used by one person at a time and can be found in many homes and offices. Personal computers contain several different components, which we will review in this course. Laptops, on the other hand, are small computers that can be easily carried around and run via internal battery power. They have all the features of a desktop personal computer, however are lighter and more mobile.

There are many different types of computers, however in this course we will be concentrating on personal computers.
